Birding Challenge

The Birding Challenge is York County Audubon’s annual “big day” fundraiser. In mid May, during spring migration, teams of birders scour the county looking for as many species as they can see or hear in 24 hours.

Local businesses support the birders through monetary and in-kind donations. YCAS then redistributes the money raised to organizations that have a powerful impact on the county’s birds, bird habitats, and birding areas.

Here is a sample of the kinds of activities and projects supported by the YCAS Birding Challenge:

2010

  • Project Puffin, Stratton Island Internship
  • Center for Wildlife, Outreach and Education
  • The Nature Conservancy, Saco Heath Boardwalk
  • Kennebunkport Conservation Trust, Seed for Feeders
