The York County Audubon Society was incorporated in 1971 as a chapter of the National Audubon Society. In January 2000 YCAS became a part of the Maine Audubon family through an affiliation of the Maine Audubon Society and the National Audubon Society. Now YCAS is in the unique position of offering the membership benefits of both of these organizations. All York County Audubon Society meetings and field trips are free and open to the public except when fees for lodging, admission and/or transportation are incurred. Meetings are held in the Mather Auditorium at the Wells Reserve, 342 Laudholm Farm Road, Wells, ME 04094. Refreshments are served at 7:00 PM and the programs begin at 7:30 PM. MISSION STATEMENT One of our primary goals is to raise funds in order to expand our current programs, field trips and scholarships in order to reach more children, and in addition, extend our programs to include senior citizens and family groups. We hope these family programs will foster discussions in the home, and make every family aware of the important role it plays in the local environmental community. We publish a quarterly newsletter, The Harlequin, which is distributed to our members and contains schedules of walks and meetings as well as articles of local interest. A flyer containing a list of field trips and programs for the coming year is also published twice a year and is mailed out with the newsletter. A Laudholm Farm Bird Census is held quarterly (May, August, November & February.) If you would like to participate, please email Joanne Stevens joshawk@maine.rr.com or Joan Junker plover@gwi.net |
