SUMMARY: June 20th - An Early Bird Walk at the Kennebunk Plains -
DESCRIPTION:Upland Sandpiper – photo by Bill Blauvelt\nOur June walk in our tour of different habitats will take us to the Kennebunk Plains\, a unique habitat that supports a variety of birds and plants that are not found anywhere else in the state.  This includes Maine’s largest colony of Grasshopper Sparrows\, and healthy populations of Upland Sandpipers and Vesper Sparrows.  Possible sightings include Horned Larks and Eastern Meadowlarks\, along with Prairie Warblers\, Indigo Buntings\, Scarlet Tanager\, Clay-colored Sparrows\, Eastern Whip-poor-wills\, and Yellow and Black-billed Cuckoos.  A complete listing can be found on eBird:  https://ebird.org/hotspot/L167477/iconic-birds?yr=curM \nVesper Sparrow – photo by Bill Grabin\nWe’ll be getting an early start\, meeting at 6 a.m. and will be meeting Nedeau Park on Clear Brook Crossing\, which is just west of the Plains.  Beginning birders are most welcome. We will be happy to introduce you to the joy of birding\, if you’re new to it. More experienced birders are most welcome as well! Please bring binoculars if you have them\, but we’ll have some to lend if you don’t. These walks are provided at no charge and advance registration is not required. \nFYI\, below is a map of the route we plan to take.
